You can presently enter the Rice Nature Preserve from the west, the north, or the east.
On the west, there is parking at the top of Highmoor Drive, up from Main Street. This is the principal entrance to the Preserve, with notices and maps.
From the north, you can walk in from the end of the paved Peak Road, which is at the top of Monson Road. However, you cannot park a car on Peak Road itself, as it is a private road. You can park on Ridge Road (safely away from its intersection with Monson Road), and walk across Monson Road to Peak Road. The walk to the trail is short.
From the east, you can drive north on Hollow Road, from its Hampden end, to the Wilbraham-Hampden town line. This is now marked by a barrier placed across Hollow Road by the Wilbraham DPW. A few steps north of the barrier there is a distinct trail, easy to follow, all the way up the hill to Sunrise Peak. The trail is on Wilbraham town land. The trail is slightly steep. Although this entrance to the Preserve is not as well known as the other two, it is the shortest walk from a car to Sunrise Peak.
The Town of Wilbraham has made satellite maps of the town available on which aerial photographs of the Preserve can be looked at. The trails are not distinct in the photographs but the maps give a different viewpoint.
In addition, especially for people who are too far away to visit the Rice Nature Preserve in person, there is an extensive collection of photographs available.
